Donald Trump Expresses Dissatisfaction Over Iran Proposal as Talks Stall
US President Donald Trump attended an event at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida, on May 1, 2026.
Trump said he was “not satisfied” with Iran’s latest negotiating proposal, as peace talks remain stalled despite a ceasefire that has lasted several weeks. He attributed the deadlock to internal divisions within Iran’s leadership.
Iran reportedly submitted the draft proposal to mediator Pakistan on Thursday evening, according to IRNA, though details were not disclosed.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “At this moment I’m not satisfied with what they’re offering,” adding that there is “tremendous discord” within Iran’s leadership. He posed a stark choice between military action and diplomacy, stating he would prefer a peaceful resolution “on a human basis.”
The conflict, initiated by the United States and Israel through surprise strikes on February 28, has been paused since April 8. Only one round of direct negotiations has taken place, which ended unsuccessfully.
Amid growing domestic pressure to seek congressional approval for military action, Trump informed lawmakers on Friday that hostilities had been “terminated,” despite no significant changes in US military deployment.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon announced plans to withdraw around 5,000 US troops from Germany over the next year. This follows remarks by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who said Iran was “humiliating” Washington in negotiations.

At the same time, Washington has approved major arms deals in the Middle East, including a $4 billion Patriot missile agreement with Qatar and nearly $1 billion in advanced weapons systems for Israel.

Following news of the proposal, global oil prices briefly dropped by nearly 5%, although they remain significantly higher than pre-war levels due to the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
A Tehran resident, Amir, described the situation as “being stuck in purgatory,” expressing skepticism about progress and predicting further military action.
